Nuptiality and families reconstitution with fragmentary sources in the military town of Namiquipa, 1780-1801
Abstract
The analysis of nuptiality through the reconstitution of families and the support of genealogies aims to contribute to the knowledge about the late colonial settlement process in the military towns established during the last third of the 18th century in the confines of the Spanish empire. The method is useful to understand characteristics such as widowhood, first, second and more marriages, the age at marriage of men and women, as well as the designation of the maidenhood among some brides, the protogenesic and intergenesic intervals, the number of children of the couples and contribute to the discussion about the “calidades” provided to people. Information of relevance to reveal the demographic characteristics and cultural practices such as kinship in the military towns of the border.Downloads
