The war between the district of Campeche and the state of Yucatán in 1857: its actors and its influence in the territorial division of the Peninsula
Abstract
This article aims to show how was the territorial division of the Yucatan Peninsula, and the process of political emancipation of Campeche, influenced by the war of the autumn of 1857. Through the analysis of the conflict, the text also explores the participants, the different motivations behind them and the way in which war and violence affected different sectors of society, mainly in the city and the district of Campeche. This work is a contribution to the historiography that addresses the separation of the Campeche district and its formation as a state; and also, contributes to the studies on armies and war in nineteenth-century Mexico.Downloads
