Uriburu and Kosterlitzky, two spies among the exiles mexicans in the United States: 1920-1930
Abstract
The article addresses the issue of espionage recorded between 1920 and 1930 in several cities in the southern United States. Two agents or spies played and important role in tracking down Mexican exiles in San Antonio, El Paso, and California. One of them was the Russian Mexican Emilio Kostelitzky, and the other, the Argentine Julio Ziegner Uriburu. Along with his duties as a spy, the latter extorted Mexicans and did various business. His greatest feat was to penetrate the circle of Félix Díaz, of which he claimed to be his representative. From his office, he advised the exiles to mount armed raids to overthrow both Álvaro Obregón and Plutarco Elías Calles. But Uriburu played a double role because he transmitted the information to the United States Department of Justice, and to some Mexican officials. Ultimately, the results of the raids were negative.Downloads
